| They love slugs. They eat snails. They are always protected. They go hibernating. A girl in our school saw a hedgehog. Hedgehogs love milk, and sometimes they can drink milk from cows udders. Tara's nana had a hedgehog in her garden. They could even eat catfood! | ||

| love the website.have recently found a hedgehog in the garden and have been busy taking photo of her,we even named her, henrietta(original)sitting in the concervatory each evening just to watch her wandering around, facinating.when on hedgehog watch last night found a baby also wandering around looking for food.so now the bowl of water is out along with a dish of cat food.(now named netta).interesting to see how you encourage them to stay.apart from having less slugs and snails in the garden i am finding the little cuties great to watch. | ||

| Hi
I live in the middle of portsmouth u.k in a block of maisonettes and i have much wildlife visits to my garden including a fox squirells and hedgehogs....tonight my dog would not settle and kept running to one of the garden chairs sitting there was a hedgehog i was amazed whe she went nose to nose with the dog ....i had to laugh as my cat who kills anything that moves gave the dog a look of disgust and went indoors without even attempting to attack the hog....when i went near she curled up so i retreated but she continued to sniff the dog ...have you any ideas why she wasnt afraid of the dog please??
regards
Elaine Reply: Hedgehogs usually take the attitude that their spines will protect them from anything however I would still have expected it to curl up when your dog approached. All I can guess is it's a hedgehog that's always lived around houses and has got used to cats and dogs and doesn't see them as a threat | ||

| Very useful site with all the basics. Am looking after a totally blind hedgehog who met with a nasty accident and was passed to me to keep her in my escape proof garden after she was repaired. The joy is that she does not know night from day so is always up and about in the daytime especially if we are in the garden too. She is a delight. But she waits by her feeding station for a meal on a plate instead of sorting out a natural diet. | ||

| Hedgehogs are cool. FREAKIN' COOL! Their mating rituals are far-fetched, and... freaky naughty. Anyhoo - I would love to copulate with a sexy hedgehog like yourself. Thank you for your time, Yours sincerely, Laura and Bethany. P.S. Obviously not at the same time, that would be just uncouth. Cheerio old chap! | ||

| Hi! Thank you for this site. The reason for writing is that our little garden (heavy build area, London zone 5, stil close to countryside) is visited every night for the last week (at least we think so) by a little hedgehog. It is late autumn and I am concern for his ability to survive over the winter. He/she is about 15-20 cm long but I cannot apreciate his weight. It looks small though. Can anybody give me an advice? We are leaving food for him and I saw him eating (peanutbutter, cheese, raisins). Thank you. PS I cannot send you an email, some java problems I do not understand. | ||

| I moved to the country recently and am absolutely delighted that I have a hedgie visit every night. He doesn't come out until midnight however and I'm not sure if it's him or the neighbouring cats that enjoy the tinned food, so your site has given me loads of tips to encourage him to come earlier. We've started a compost heap which is cultivating huge slugs and have planted bushes that the slugs enjoy and installed a pond to encourage frogs. Fantastic site. Very informative. | ||

| Wonderful site! Good job you do! I was not able to send this via your mail system: Dear www.hedgehogz.co.uk! Do hedgehogs eat sunflower seeds? We got a good deal of it underneath the birds' feeding spot in the garden. Currently we have four specimens feasting there, and we wonder if they find worms, etc.(do not see any on the surface). If not, are seeds a suitable diet, or should we provide some catfood for them? It is rather hot for the year (Moss town, SE Norway) and they drink a lot of water. Many thanks for your cooperation, Best Regards, Kari Aasgaard | ||

| Thanks for the helpful info. I have up to 5 hedgehogs vising my garden at night for over two years now. I think that one of the females, may have just had a litter. She was very large, became aggressive towards the other hogs. ( normally she ignores them )Then she went went missing for 3 days. Has now reappeared slimmer. She came for her dogfood, and went straight home again. Which is most unlike her. She normally stays for hours wandering around. We have a good sytem here, I alerted my neighbours to their presence, so now they are watchful when gardening. They provide the hedgehogs with safe sleeping areas, and I provide the food supplements ( hedgehog biscuits and dog food) plenty of water and an organic garden free of all forms of pesticides. So that they can eat all the bugs safely. I no longer have snails or slugs eating my plants. I love hedgehogs ! And the best thing is they have over 5 gardens to wander around, and don't have to cross any roads ! | ||

| My Dad made a hedgehog house for us last November and a hedgehog moved in the day we installed it in the garden. He/she has just woken up from hibernation and last night was mating with another hedgehog in the garden. (We were fascinated but tried not to intrude too much!!) We're really hoping for babies in our hedgehog house! Great website - learned everything I needed to know and the baby photos are brilliant! | ||

| Very useful! I have a hedgehog who hibernated in the house I bought for him/her after my first sighting. Would you tell me what the persistent and very loud snuffling noise is that has been going on for hours tonight (inside the hedgehog house)? I wondered if it was mating but not sure that both a male and female would go inside the house together?? Reply: Well pretty much the only time you'll see two hedgehogs together is when they are mating so I'd say it sounds quite likely. | ||
