A very interesting site.I had been thinking of trying to adopt a pair but now realize this would be hazardous for them as we get a lot of foxes in our garden. What a disappointment.

Hello! i'm from Manila, Philippines. My youngest son Raphael, turning 9 this Sept. 27, loves documentaries about hedgehogs......we might not be able to see one up close, but our family loves these animals.....so i thought of surfing the net and found this wonderful site.....it's quite informative. We surely will have lots of stories to tell him in the morning!

Fantastic site! Saw a baby, baby, tiny, wee, little hedgehog in our garden a few nights ago, and wanted to find out some more info on them. Really want to encourage it out again, so am now going to put some cat food and doggy biscuits down, in the hope it may stay around a while! My children are desperate to see it!!!!

Hi Since last night (4th of June 04) we have had a rather persistant prickly visitor. :D He/she seems to like sleeping in the bin bag (once all the rubbish has been ..er.. removed :D. We love his company and don't want to scare him away but if the bag was taken or he/she was suffocated, it would be horrible. I've now lifted the bag out of the way. Do you have any tips? we want him to feel safe and be safe. Should a put a box of some kind down where the bag was? If he/she really wants to sleep there then I can accomodate him. Also we have 5 cats. So far they've shown a complete lack of interest in him. I don't think they'll harm him (they'ed probably come off worse anyway). Thanks for time and great site.

Nice site. I borrowed my company's PC to visit. I have a male African pygmy hedgehog named "Velcro", who I rescued. We are very attached to each other, as he and I have the same temprament: huffy and prickly on the outside, but loveable on the inside.

I was in the UK recently and saw my 1st hedgehog in the "wild". Well, it was actually in my friend's front garden. I'm just trying to learn more about them. I might adopt one at this site. http://www.adoption.co.uk/wildlifeaid/ It's a shame the animals that are being driven out of their own habitat.

I used to live in the Dales with 5 cats. One night I heard a noise in the kitchen and found a large hedgehog helping himself to catfood, somehow he got through the cat flap. After freezing the first two or three times he got used to us, and "Hedge" came back every summer night for 2 years! The cats weren't bothered either!!

well....has anyone seen a euro? are they legal to have for pets?

Reply: Most unlikely - they're common in the wild in Europe and their transfer to elsewhere (presumably the US) is not encouraged.

We have discovered two small hedghogs in our garden, we were concerned about their weight for hibernation this winter, after reading some of your info. on this web page we feel confident that they are old enough to survive. We do usually have two bigger and older hedghogs visit us but they have not been seen since our two new visitors.
