enjoyed learning about hedgehogs..was considering having one as a pet, however this is no longer an option having realized the stress factor on the critter would be cruel...will just enjoy pictures & info untill I can see one if I ever get to an area where they are native

Please Please Please DON'T buy or keep a Hedgehog as a pet. They walk anything up to 2 miles a night in the wild. Also think about how are you going tp provide 1) Something for them to climb up? 2) Fresh worms and black beetles EVERY night, to eat? 3)Fresh turf to smell at and scratch in? 4) Don't forget that to give them a proper diet to match what they would find in the wild, you will have to provide regularly..... a) Fresh butterflies and moths. b) Fresh Avacado's c) An occasional Chocolate biscuit d) A regular supply of mealworms.

Enjoy reading the guestbook. There seems to be some confusion between hedgehog as pets (African Pygmy Hedgehogs) and hedgehogs in the wild. I gather the BHPS take a dim view of hedgehogs as pets, but being the owner of a busy little African Pygmy hedgehog, can assure you they are very entertaining. I take my little fellow on school visits and the children go home with a much better understanding of both those in the wild and those we have as pets.

am a animal keeper at a zoo here in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. I have a presenation at an elementary school soon, and I a m taking our albino hedgehog. I have looked at many web-sites for more information to be ready for all the questions from the kids. I must tell you that this site was a HUGE help. This was the only site I could find that could help me at all. Thanks for all your assistance, and for your great site. Keep up the great work.

Thanks for the info.I want to encourage hedgehogs to visit my garden. They would be most welcome to consume all the slugs etc that they desire without fear of being poisoned. They are the gardeners friend and should be free to live in the wild.

I really enjoyed your information. It was extremely helpful. We found a hedgehog in our yrad a few days ago and being from the states and not knowing anything about them, I decided to go online in hopes of obtaining information. Now I feel assured that my 21 month old son will not be attacked and that we will feel comfortable approaching (but not touching) these beautiful creatures. Thanks again for your knowledge!!

We have discovered a mother and her three new babies nesting in our garden, under a tree that was cut down. It is the height of summer here and she seems well fed and happy? We hear her on our deck rattling in the catfood bowls and we have left her out her own treats and plenty of water. The children have built a catproof area around her nest without distrubing her and allowing access out. We will continue to monitor progress! Any tips? Ruth.

Nice site, packed with info and good pictures - but not references (plagiarism is a crime). Worth the visit though, I'm interested to know where your interest in Hedgehogs stems from (haven't had time to read your personnal home page - may come back later!).

We have been looking after damaged/small hedgies for a few years (two in cages in our lounge at present. Just trying to find out a little more info on lung worm as I believe one of our newcomers may have the problem. No real need to reply if you are busy, just doing a little reasearch until the vet opens! All the best.

I live in the southern U. S. of A., and recently adopted a European hedgehog (named "Cuddles!") from a friend who was unable to keep him any longer. Info on these animals has been extremely hard to come by, and I really thank you for having by far the most informative web-site I have been able to find! You confirmed, for example, that he is hibernating (at least partially, as it does not get extremely cold here.) He had been coming out only sporadically to feed voraciously, and then sleeping the vast majority of the time. Again, thanks very much!

Hey! Great site, I live in the north-western US, and have two Hedgehogs. Layli and Pokey, and Layli is expecting. She is overdue the 35 days, and this site really helps me find out what I need to know when the hoglets really get here. This is the only site I know that gives the natural info, which is the way I wanna go. (like crumpling leaves for bedding instead of shavings) Thanks for giving the great information about hedgehogs, and please keep this site up for everybody soon to become slaves to their hedgie pets. (even though people by you just have them living in their yards) Thanks, Sami Layli, Pokey, and kids

visited site because I found a baby - 375g hedgehog this morning being attacked by a Ravin. Had head injuries from the Ravin pecking it, and was also going round in circles. Now eating tinned dog food and water, not interested in worms. Prepared to look after it over winter, need some general advice and also what to do about reintroducing it to the wild in Spring. How much will it eat in one day - all being well? Do they like mealworms? Thanks a lot.

To be honest i haven't laughed so much in ages, not that your website is bad, but i never knew you were so inclined to hedgehogs. Keep up the good work!!!
